Brent's Car Story

Recently, my son Brent was rehearsing with the worship team at his church (of all places). He took off his coat, put his car keys in his coat pocket and hung it up in the coat room along with the other team members. After rehearsal, Brent went to the coat room to get his car keys to leave. He looked all over the church for them and could not find them anywhere. Sadly, a 15 year old kid had come into the coat room, reached in his coat pocket, and stole his car keys. Brent thought, I’d better go check the parking lot to see if my car is there. It was not…The kid had stolen the car and gone joy riding with three others. Two days later, Brent got a call from the police stating they had found his car, it had been totaled by the teenager. After being really angry, I called Brent to talk with him about it and he reminded me of two things. One was the song that Janae (my wife) wrote. Gotta Forgive Them and the scripture found in Matthew 6:20 that says:

But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal.

We are living in troubling times, and uncertainty. There is one constant, unmovable, and unchangeable power. GOD…When we look at what really is important, and what has eternal value, it’s not the car, our homes, or portfolio…it’s our souls, and we have to remember that GOD HOLDS THE KEYS TO THE VEHICLE THAT LEADS TO ETERNITY.
